But... but... I don't get it!

OK, this is something that hasn't happened to me in years.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. In a knitting pattern.

Now, this isn't sewing, which I've decided I need to start doing recently and could be written in German for most of the instructions. No.

I'm trying to make an afghan for my friend's upcoming wedding. I'm trying to follow this pattern. Right about when it gets to the full entrelac panel... I am officially clueless. Because I get either triangles or weird non square shaped things.

I don't get it!
