ph33r my drunken knitting skillz!
So, despite being utterly and totally trashed, I still managed to knit on public transit tonight.
Correctly.
Well, almost. But I realized the error, and corrected for it immediately.
I think that's pretty gosh darned impressive. But then, I'm drunk. So, the ability to stand upright is impressive. I'm impressed I haven't made any egregious spelling errors in this post.
Carry on, then.
But I'm done knitting! Why isn't it finished?!?!
I just spent two hours trying to make mattress stitch ma bitch when it came to sleeve caps!
Unfortunately, I forgot that the cap is actually bigger than the set in, so I ended up cowering in submission instead.
And then I tried on the one sleeve Bella and panicked because one side (with the sleeve) is shorter than the other side (without the sleeve, and therefore the armhole hangs lower. You know when you were a sleeveless dress and your bra shows through your armhole? Like that).
It took me 10 minutes to figure out the information in the parens.
10 panic-filled, gods-cursing minutes.
I need to finish this sweater. NOW. It is SO CUTE!
Hey! She lives!
I'm no longer in the week from hell, so I can update, but I don't have a whole lot to post.
Bella is in the midst of seaming and blocking. Note the dreaded iron...
Actually, I'm finding steam blocking to be extraordinarily cool. (pun not intended) I'm not sure what it's doing, if anything, to this 60% wool/40% acrylic yarn, but it seems to be working out fairly well. Despite not making any actual promise on it, I cannot wait to finish this damn cardigan!
Also, I found a hook and eyelet set for it. The top closure is a given, the question is, do I want a below the boobs closure? The answer is probably.
What I meant to post about was that I reached a major milestone in the 'Christina can felt' expedition. I finished the body of my bag. The straps were finished a while ago, too, but I can't felt until I finish my extra touches.
I was very amused when the instructions said to put the bag in an old pillowcase if I didn't have a zippered net pouch.
My bag could be a pillow case. It's very, very large.
I would have worn this thing to show that it's longer than a sweater and wide enough to fit me, but y'know, there's the whole bottom part... Still, it makes an excellent hood.
No photographic resemblence between myself and
the prisoner on the box is intended. Please do not flame me.
Ooooh!
This is a great idea for my Bella twinset! (I'm making
Bella as a cardigan and want to make a shell under it).
Not only will I have a ridiculous amount of yarn left so I won't worry about running out, that suits what I wanted to do just fine!
Now I have to wonder if a wool/acryllic shell won't give me heat exhaustion.
Oh gosh.
I owe y'all:
pics of drop spindle full of wool
pics of the semi complete Bella
pics of the 2/3s finished and unfelted bag.
This week is extremely busy for me. So, no. Sorry. Not tonight. Nuh uh. Ciao!
I own 7 crochet hooks. 1 C, 1 H, 3 I, a plastic green one that was my grandmother's and won't fit in my sizer (somewhere between H & I) and one wooden one I got at a garage sale that I have no idea what size it is.
Of course,
Bella requires a G.
::headdesk:::
Thank the lords for
knitswap!
Curses!
So, in this
NY Times article about spoilers there's the headline of all of the characters and the spoilers and such.
But what they don't have up is that below David Boreanaz is Jennifer Garner holding a gun, with a speech bubble that says "This season, spying. Next season, knitting."
I think that would make excellent drama.
Tank A Long!
Hey, I joined the tank a long!
Good news is, I'm designing and making a supercool tank top!
Bad news is, I'm designing a supercool tank top and I want to submit it to mags. So, no pictures!
::laughs maniacally::
Spinning, I had missed thee!
So, I finished up my sampler of pencil roving at my biweekly stitch and bitch yesterday. It was super easy to spin. Just add twist!
So, last night when getting ready for bed, I started on my wool mohair brown/pink/blue fiber. And for someone who is a sporadic spinner, I think it's pretty darn good. It has occasional lumps and skinny bits, and I'm not as good as joining new balls as I'd like to pretend, but...
I had missed spinning. A lot. I had missed the meditative aspect, the 'I must sit still and focus on one thing' side of spinning that they don't tell you about. You can't multitask and watch television or read. You can talk to people, but really, that's it.
Everyone at the s'n'b that watched me spin was in the state of 'oh, that's so cool! NO! No more hobbies!' It really is the next logical step in knitting. You knit scarves. You knit sweaters. You design your own scarves and sweaters. You spin the wool to make your own scarves and sweaters.
I have 5.5 ounces of this lovely fiber to play with to make a nice fingering or DK weight yarn. After that, I have to go back to my sampler pack where I have silk! and merino! and something else! waiting for me in 1 oz packages.
Of course, then comes the problem of what do I
make with all of these small balls of yarn, but I figure I can felt a bag or something.
Sheep! Wool! Sheep and wool!
So, I met up with my conspirators this afternoon, and we went in pursuit of the sheep and wool festival in Maryland! And I brought my camera!
First, we saw some sheep
Oh, wait, I mean some sheep!
And then Tofu the Goat!
And then, I met a bunny!
I was in serious cuteness overload. Because there were so. many. aminals. Sheep! Bunnies! Goats! Angora bunnies! BABY ANGORA BUNNIES! LOOKING FOR A GOOD HOME! Alas, I could not buy one.
We probably managed to cover only 2/3 of the vendor booths while there, but oh my gods there was so much fiber! Just begging to be spun! It was, in fact, crying out 'spin me! spin me!'
Picture your favorite LYS. Multiply it by 150. That's what the booths were like. While there was not, perhaps, a whole lot of variety in yarn types or roving dye colors, there were people from all over the country trying to sell us stuff!
The most successful vendors (for my lil crew) was a sort of flea market shop that had two huge cardboard boxes full of yarn. We dug through and found some beauties. I got 8 skeins of a cotton that will become a fair isle yoked cardigan of some kind - what I wanted in another sitcom chic.
And the fiber! Oh my gods, the fiber! I had so much fun running around just petting everything! And I went a tad overboard on my purchases, yes, tis true. But I'm rationalizing just as hard as I can - I will not have an opportunity to buy fiber like this again for a very long time. Nor will I have the need.
In case you're wondering, I came away with this:
The pinks are the cotton, the pink sparkly ball is wool roving with mylar sparkly stuff, the blue/pink/brown is a wool mohair and the purple is a merino/tencel blend. (!!!! SO LOVELY!)
Officially a great day. And then I went home and balled most of that mess of yarn I got so cheaply! Must finis my current spinning projects, because I can't wait to get my hands on this stuff.
