Christmas Knits!
Ah my sweet bounty... You arrived in within four days of placing my order. And immediatey, I began knitting. Because that's a lot of knitting to get done in a month. Farewell Menja & Juliet... I will work on you in January!
Part of a keyhole scarf for my mother.
This is a tie for my father. Yes, yes I really am putting a new spin on giving your father a tacky tie for Christmas. My dad loves tacky. The pattern is the solid pointed tie pattern from
Winter Interweave 2004. And, as it read in the magazine, the pattern calls for a skein of yarn.
That's 26" of a 56" tie. As you can see, it's not enough. I have since checked the website corrections (not there) and sent Interweave a stern email. The online preview has the correct amount and I'm sure my second skein is winging its way towards me, but still...
We are not amused.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Enjoy your turkey!

Love
On Thursday evening, I ordered from elann.com for the first time.
This afternoon, my dreams have come true. There it is. All of my yarn. Cheap and fast.
Unfortunately, I think I need to reset my browser colors because no colors seem to be what I thought they were. Almost all of the color will still be fine, but I should have realized that a color named strawberry will not, in fact, be cranberry. Hopefully it should still do the trick.
Pics tomorrow!
I was on a hiatus?
No, not so much.
Apparently, one of my
stalkers has missed me. Now I feel the need to... well, not to apologize for being gone so long, but at least explain.
See, I spent the past 10 days huddled in a corner, weeping over the election results. And if you did a little happy dance over them, good for you. I hope you took pictures. But I went on a ten day bender and have just now regained consciousness.
In the middle of all of that, I spent probably a good 7 hours setting up, working and striking the
woolarina booth to sell a scarf. It was a tragically slow night for me, but I did get a cup out of it, because the potter across the way was just a nice person.
It's currently holding change, but maybe I'll actually use it as a teacup some day, like it was originally intended.
Why does no one love the fuzzy scarves and wire chokers? I swear, they are all the rage! Also, I'm tired of having 20 of each in my house.
Off sleeve island!
And now onto the body! I've been working slowly on the back, but once you start straying from a pattern and doing your own thing, it's figure out what comes next. (I'm shaping the body for more than the pattern calls for and between too much sitting and not enough thinking, I'm at full bust increases but two inches below my bust. Oops)
Have I mentioned I want to marry silky wool? It can even be unfaithful to me, I don't care! Fine, run with other knitters! Just come back to me, my darling!
In other news, despite complaints I've heard about slow delivery, I'm about to start on a torrid affair
handpaintedyarn.com. Because
kettle dyed pure merino wool at cheap prices is a terrible thing to waste. Except, of course, I'm broke. Oh my lovelies... wait for me!
Halloween!
So, Halloween is a day away and you find yourself costumeless. What do you do?
Yes, I know it's two weeks later. Bear with me. I've been lazy busy.
1. Buy a $2 headband from the local drug store.
2. Make 4 triangles and sew to the headband to make yourself a pair of cat ears.
3. Take an old yard of cat fabric and hem it on public transportation for an hour.
4. Dress all in black, slap on some goth makeup...
And be catty for Halloween!
If you want to make yourself a pair of cat ears, it's pretty easy and very similar to the cat ears in the Kittyville hat.
Needed:
Scrap worsted weight black yarn
scrap worsted weight pink yarn
size 10 needles
headband
tapestry needle
Back Triangle: (Make 2)
Cast on 10 stitches. Work four rows stockinette, using a selvedge stitch.
Knit 1, ssk, knit across until the last 4 stitches, k2tog, knit t1.
Purl across.
Repeat until 5 stitches remain. Knit 1, slip 1, k2tog, psso, k1.
Purl across.
k3tog. Cut yarn and pull yarn through.
Front Triangle: (Make 2)
Cast on 10 stitches. Work 2 rows stockinette. Knit 2, knit 6 in pink, knit 2 in black. Purl across in color pattern.
Work decreases the same as the back triangles, dropping the pink when 5 stitches remain on the needle.
Knit 1, slip 1, k2tog, psso, k1.
Purl across.
k3tog. Cut yarn and pull yarn through.
Sew two triangles together. Whipstitch the ears onto the headband, taking care to keep them in approximately the same place. Cut yarns and go party!
Well, maybe for next Halloween, then.
This is nothing new...
Undoubtedly, you've heard it a million times before.
But if you don't vote today, I will hunt you down personally and stab with a knitting needle. I don't care who you vote for, I don't care if you knit waiting in line, filling out your ballot, if you vote naked, if you vote for Nader. I don't care.
VOTE.
It's that simple.
