The Ren Faire Pouch

I went to the Ren Faire, umm... two Saturdays ago? And I realized that I had no Ren Faire appropriate purse to go with my garb. A day and some stash yarn later, I had...

The Ren Faire Pouch!

Materials:
remnant ball of bulky weight cotton (50+ yards)
size 10 DPNs
big crochet hook
6 mm plastic pony beads ($1 a bag @ Michaels – this used maybe 1/3 of the bag)
tapestry needle

Pattern Stitch:
Worked Over 4 Stitches
Row 1: yfwd, slide bead to front of yarn, slip 1 purlwise, ybck, knit 3
All Even Rows: Knit
Row 3: Knit 1, yfwd, slide bead to front of yarn, slip 1 purlwise, ybck, knit 2
Row 5: Knit 2, yfwd, slide bead to front of yarn, slip 1 purlwise, ybck, knit 1
Row 7: Knit 3, yfwd, slide bead to front of yarn, slip 1 purlwise, ybck,

Pattern:
String a LOT of beads onto the yarn. More than you think necessary.
CO 48 stitches over DPNs. Knit 1 row.
*Knit 6, k2tog. Repeat from * for the rest of the row.
*Knit 5, k2tog. Repeat from * for the rest of the row.
*Knit 4, k2tog. Repeat from * for the rest of the row.
Knit 1 row.
*Knit 3, increase into next stitch. Repeat from * for the rest of the row.
Knit 1 row plain
Begin pattern stitch (12 repeats per row)
Do a total of 3 repeats of the pattern stitch.
Knit 1 row.
Decreases:
Row 1: *Knit 6, k2tog. Repeat from * around
Row 2: *Knit 5, k2tog. Repeat from * around
Row 3: *Knit 4, k2tog. Repeat from * around
Row 4: *Knit 3, k2tog. Repeat from * around
Row 5: *Knit 2, k2tog. Repeat from * around
Row 6: *Knit 1, k2tog. Repeat from * around
Row 7: k2tog around

Break yarn and thread through remaining stitches. Draw closed.

With crochet hook and new yarn, chain a good amount of stitches. Break yarn and thread through final loop. Weave chain through the narrowest part of the bag at about every other stitch.

Weave in ends. Sew chain stitch string shut.

This pattern is recreated from looking at the finished object and figuring out what I did. I reserve the right to be completely wrong without remorse.

Please credit this pattern to Christina McNamee if you use it. (OMG DUN STEAL!)

SEPTEMBER 2ND?!

OK, I'm fired as a knit blogger. But I swear I have a good reason.

See, I moved at the beginning of the month. And even though I have no furniture, it's still a lot of effort to pack up your earthly belongings, move them cross town and then unpack them in a way that suits you. Also, in doing so, my aunt shanghaied my computer.

Then, my work went crazy busy. And I'm doing this whole 'cooking for oneself' thing. And going grocery shopping. And to the gym. And I've managed to go out drinking for 8 of the past 10 days. Dude, living is expensive. Which is why the whole work thing is nice, except that I don't get the whole overtime thing. Alas.

The main point of this post was to do that whole Secret Pal reveal thing that everyone else did oh, say, last month. I had fun spoiling Jennifer, despite my spinning wheel breaking in the midst of my projects for her. Luckily, it sounds like she enjoyed it too.

I got my final from my SP5, who introduced herself as the very busy Karon who still managed to send me three great packages, including my final one:

Two skeins of Lorna's Laces, size 1 DPNs and a copy of KnitLit. I will definitely use the DPNs to make a fine pair of socks for someone. And then I will weep at giving them up, because OMG THE NICE YARN.

In the space between receiving the package and this entry, I've now read the book. How do I feel about this one? I like it quite a bit, but it doesn't thrill me. Too many stories had the same tone. I mean, it's not like there are knitting rock star stories, but everything sounded the same. I'll give the next few a try, especially since I know someone who's in KL3.

Anyway, life continues. I'm mostly through with the wedding afghan and I'm definitely going to run out of yarn, which sucks because the wedding is, well, Sunday and I don't have time to run out to AC Moore's to pick up three skeins of woolease kind of ever and I certainly can't get this finished and shipped in the next week. HA! It is to laugh. I also managed to miss an opportunity to get published off of a website that I own because it happened in the midst of the moving work craziness and now it's nearly a month later, which is far too late to submit a 500 word sample. Though part of me wonders if it's anything like the Maran Knitting & Crochet book which spammed blogs in a (successful) attempt to get PR a few months ago.

I've got a small pattern to post here soon, and it looks like I may actually get published in the next few months. In like, a real magazine. Well, a real internet magazine. It counts. Really. I swear. Shut up, it totally does!

And just in time for autumn, I've got a tank top pattern ready to submit around. Oh dear. I quit.

I'm kind of hoping this cold I'm fighting will actually catch up with me tomorrow, so I can stay home and catch my breath. Catch my breath. With a chest cold. Get it?

Katrina is a poophead

So, I'm sure everyone has seen this everywhere but just in case, check out Give a Little.

I have no money. So I'm donating a couple of skeins of handspun (even if I haven't spun them yet. Sssh! I have time! Really!) and extras in my stash that I'll find when I unpack the place.

I'm also donating blood on Monday (of course, that won't get me the chance to win lovely knitted gifts, but still).

A Moving Post

This is the bottom of my sock drawer (after all socks have been removed). There's movie stubs, penny wrappers, two tubes of toothpaste, a tub of catnip (from the wendyknits mouse-a-thon), an Oral B brushup, a tube of eyeliner I got at walmart that doesn't match my skin tone at all, a keychain and a small ball of yarn from my lucky sweater. And a couple of loose socks.

Speaking of socks:

These are all the lone socks that I had in my sock drawer. There are 7 in total (the 7th is cut off on the right)

So, that center red, white & pink sock? I went to the house of this guy I was seeing wearing that pair of socks (one of my favorite pairs). Things... progressed. I had to go home and as I was redressing I found myself missing a sock. We both looked and found ourselves unable to find it. I went home with one sock and his assurances that he'd find it when he did laundry.

Despite my occasional reminders, after I dumped his sorry behind, I still never got that sock back. I left my toothbrush there, too.

I like to think of him finding that other sock and later, clutching it to his chest and weeping.
