Did you miss me?

Ah, the joys of webhosting.

If you've wondered where I've been, it goes a bit like this...

In December, I bought extra bandwidth because I was getting a lot of traffic. In January, I got mugged four days before my hosting & domain were due to be renewed. I had no credit cards with which to renew my hosting and, in fact, forgot about it completely until I got an email saying that my hosting charge had been declined. I wrote a panicked email to my support people. They granted me a week extension, but not until after my domain name had expired.

My debit card showed up, so I renewed everything, but I cancelled the extra bandwidth. In the confirmation, the person talking to me said that I'd already exceeded my normal allotment for the month, but they were cancelling it anyway.

So, I upgraded my hosting, which should have given me 10 times the bandwidth I had (you guys can go to town! Just don't hotlink.). I placed the order two weeks ago, but it didn't get processed until yesterday. Of course, I'd already exceeded my bandwidth. Ugh.

So, moral of the story? Don't do anything different with webhosting. Ever.

Going Down?

Hey guys!

Apologies if the site goes down over the next couple of days... my hosting and domain are billed soon and surprisingly, you can't buy things online without credit cards. Which I don't have right now. Stupid mugger.

So, if I go away, I'll be back!

Shawl!

So, I finished my Madli shawl New Years Day and have JUST now gotten around to posting pictures. I didn't finish blocking it until last weekend, so let's use that as an excuse.

The picture of me is terrible, but the shawl looks good.

I started this project 7 months ago. Yes. 7. You heard me. I worked on it solidly for 3 months, then tragedy struck and I threw it in my unfinished project basked for two months because I couldn't bear to look at it. In the middle of December, I got so sick of knitting my holiday presents, I took a break and spent a Saturday ripping out everything and started again. After the furious work to get the socks finished in time for the holidays, Madli became my next project. Since my vacations are all about me and my parents TiVo, I managed to get her done rather quickly, kitchenering all 101 stitches WITHOUT INCIDENT in one sitting. Yay for my mad kitchener skills.

A Crime of Yarn

So, I got mugged on my way home the other night. I'm fine, the guy just got my purse and ran, and now I get to go through the hassle of replacing everything. I'm still kind of mad about the little things that were in the purse that I won't get back - the library book that I was really enjoying, the two tupperware that were the perfect size for lunch, the vitamins, the makeup.

After the obligatory six hours spend talking to the police, my credit card companies, my mother and crying my head off, I was pretty much fine. I still am pretty much fine. I'm just pissed. I was complaining to a friend about the other stuff I lost. A gap card that had $20 on it, a CVS card with a couple of sodas worth on it, my library cards-

"Wait... he didn't get your knitting, did he?"

Only a knitter would say that. He didn't but she was afraid for my yarn! A good knitting buddy is someone who understands the tragedy of having a partial Denise kit.

Of course, if I'd had my knitting, I could have stabbed him with a needle. Knitting needle beats a gun, right?
